Niger: access to the presidency in Niamey blocked

Access to the Nigerian presidency in Niamey was blocked by members of the presidential guard on Wednesday morning for an unspecified reason. Access to President Mohamed Bazoum's residence and the offices of the presidential complex was forbidden. Despite this, no special military force was visible in the area, traffic was normal, and no gunshots were heard. Niger has a history of coups, with four occurring since its independence in 1960. The country is currently led by democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum, who is in power until April 2021.
