Ontario's Recycling Fee Program for non-alcoholic drink containers, called Recycle Everywhere, has been put on hold as the government explores a deposit return system. The program, which would have required producers to pay recycling fees, was part of the province's revamped Blue Box program. The Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) stated that there is "no viability" in continuing the program while the government explores other options. The government has invited industry stakeholders to develop a deposit return system similar to the one for alcoholic beverage containers. The CBCRA estimated that the program would have collected $80 million annually for recycling initiatives.
