Won’t Notify ‘Fact Check Unit’ Against Fake News Till Sept 4: Centre to HC

The Indian government has informed the Bombay High Court that it will not Notify the 'Fact Check Unit' (FCU) until September 4th under the recently amended Information Technology (IT) Rules. The Rules aim to flag fake content on social media related to the government. The court has been hearing petitions challenging the amended IT Rules, with petitioners arguing that they are arbitrary and unconstitutional and infringe on citizens' fundamental rights. The Centre requested an adjournment of the court dates to argue its case, stating that preparations for other matters were required.
