Social media platforms, including Facebook, Telegram, TikTok, and Youtube, have become accessible again in Ethiopia after more than five months of restrictions. The Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI) and an AFP journalist confirmed the change. The Ethiopian government had blocked these platforms since February 9, following a call for demonstrations by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Amnesty International criticized the blockage, stating that it violated citizens' rights to freedom of expression and access to information. The government and Ethio Telecom have not responded to requests for comment. Internet access has been restricted in Ethiopia on several occasions in recent years.
