Libyan border guards have rescued migrants who were abandoned in the desert by Tunisian authorities without food and water. The migrants, mostly from sub-Saharan African countries, were forcibly taken to uninhabited areas near the Tunisia-Libya border after racial unrest in Sfax, Tunisia. Many of the migrants were visibly exhausted and dehydrated, and their numbers are increasing daily. Tunisia police reportedly threatened to throw the migrants into Libya, and a video shows a migrant saying they were deported from Tunisia. Human traffickers in Libya have profited from the chaos since the overthrow of Moamer Kadhafi in 2011.
