How a fake Hindu nation duped 3 B.C. cities

Three mayors from cities in British Columbia, Canada, proclaimed July 3, 2023, as "Guru Purnima Day" at the request of the United States of Kailasa, a Fake Hindu Nation. The founder of Kailasa, Nithyananda, is a self-styled Hindu swami wanted in India on charges of rape and sexual assault. The mayors of Surrey, Victoria, and Nanaimo have rescinded the proclamations, stating they signed them in error. This is not the first time that fake nations have deceived elected officials into signing official documents, raising questions about due diligence in such matters.
