Tunisian coastguard recovers 13 migrant bodies from the sea

The Tunisian coastguard has recovered the bodies of 13 migrants after a shipwreck off Sfax, where violent clashes occurred last week between migrants and residents. Tunisian rights groups have expressed concern about the conditions faced by expelled migrants in Sfax and have called for emergency shelters to be set up. Hundreds of sub-Saharan migrants are reportedly homeless in the city, with some choosing to hide in rural areas. Last night, the coastguard rescued 25 sub-Saharan migrants attempting an illegal crossing but also recovered 13 bodies. The Mediterranean has seen a significant number of migrant deaths this year, with many attempting to reach Europe from Tunisia.
