Karnataka Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport, Mankal Subba Vaidya, has stated that 26 maritime projects in Karnataka are being held up due to delays in obtaining clearance under the coastal regulation zone (CRZ). These projects were sanctioned by the Centre under the Sagarmala scheme. Despite relaxations in rules announced by the Centre, hurdles in obtaining CRZ clearance are preventing investors from funding these projects. The government is considering a proposal to develop a port at Mavinakurve in Uttara Kannada district under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Additionally, a mini-floating jetty will be constructed at Karwar, and a proposal for another floating jetty in Mangaluru is pending.
