Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of one count of rape and attempted rape in a retrial. Mendy, 28, broke down in tears as the verdicts were given by the jury foreman after a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court. The France international, whose contract with City ended on July 1, was cleared of the charges relating to incidents in 2018 and 2020. Mendy denied the charges and said the encounters were consensual. Earlier this year, he was cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault but faced a retrial for two counts.
