The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing strict standards to remove Lead from millions of buildings, including homes, schools, and daycare centers. The move comes after a lawsuit from environmental groups claimed that the EPA's lead standards were inadequate. Despite efforts to reduce lead exposure, half of children in the US still have detectable traces of lead in their blood. The new EPA rule would virtually eliminate lead dust, reducing exposure for between 250,000 and 500,000 children. However, removing lead from buildings will not eliminate the overall threat, as hidden sources of lead contamination, such as lead-coated cables, still exist.
