Peru Rescues 23 Afghans From Migrant Traffickers

Peruvian authorities have rescued 23 Afghan migrants who were deceived by people smugglers while attempting to reach Ecuador. The migrants paid money to be transported across Peru and to the northern border but were instead cheated and left in a house without food in the village of Inapari. Among the victims were four children, including a two-month-old baby. The migrants were led to believe they would be transferred to Lima before heading to Tumbes, near the Peru-Ecuador border. The exact amount paid to the smugglers was not disclosed.
