France's energy transition minister, Agnes Pannier-Runacher, has called on Saudi Arabia to review its carbon emissions reduction targets and consider adopting goals to be achieved by 2030. Saudi Arabia currently aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. Pannier-Runacher made the comments during her visit to the kingdom, where she met with her Saudi counterpart and business representatives. She also encouraged Saudi Arabia to review its trajectory ahead of the COP28 climate summit, which will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in November. Saudi Arabia's state-owned energy firm, Saudi Aramco, is targeting "operational net-zero" carbon emissions by 2050.
