An obese pig named Portia was Rescued from a flat in Manchester after being fed a diet of fizzy drinks and Junk Food for seven years. The pig weighed 26 stone (165kg) and could barely walk. After being taken to Whitegate Animal Sanctuary, Portia was put on a strict meal plan and has now returned to a healthy weight. The pig is described as having a "good little life and attitude" and has learned to sleep with other pigs. In a separate incident, a Labrador cross named Coco was rescued from a home where it had become dependent on alcohol.
