International NGO Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) has called for the immediate resumption of Food Aid distribution in Ethiopia. The US government and the UN Food Programme suspended food aid in May to the northern region of Tigray but later extended the suspension to the rest of the country. MSF has reported alarming levels of malnutrition in Ethiopia, with acute malnutrition rates well above the emergency threshold set by the World Health Organisation. The Somali region has been particularly hard hit by drought, leading to high levels of malnourished children and low vaccination coverage, increasing the risk of epidemics.
