Around 95% of the work on the Katra-Banihal route in Kashmir has been completed, according to the Northern Railways. The project is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which aims to connect the Kashmir valley to the rest of India. Out of the total 272 km project, 161 km of railway track has already been commissioned.
