US ‘Actively’ Seeking Leader for Haiti Force, Blinken Says

The United States is Actively Seeking a country to lead a multinational force in Haiti, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Despite calls from Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for an international force in the country, no country has come forward. Blinken stated that the US is in active conversations with countries in the region and at the United Nations about the force. However, the US has declined to take on a leading role and instead expressed support for building Haiti's national police. The violence in Haiti, perpetrated by gangs, remains a pressing issue.
