Canadian authorities have identified the body found in a river in Ottawa in 1975 as Jewell "Lalla" Langford, a 48-year-old businesswoman from Tennessee. Langford, known as the "Nation River Lady," had co-owned a health spa and was a prominent member of the Jackson, Tennessee business community. She had traveled to Montréal in April 1975 and was found dead a month later, strangled with a TV cable and bound with men's neckties. The case remained unsolved until 2020 when her DNA was matched through forensic genealogy. Rodney Nichols, an 81-year-old man who knew Langford, was arrested and charged with murder.
