Former Rwandan gendarme Philippe Hategekimana, who was naturalized as French under the name Philippe Manier, has appealed his conviction of Genocide and crimes against humanity in Rwanda. His lawyers believe that a fair process will prove his innocence. Hategekimana was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court on June 28. He was found guilty of participating in or encouraging the murder of Tutsis during the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, which resulted in the deaths of over 800,000 people. Hategekimana's defense argued that the accusations against him were unfounded.
