A coalition of doctors in Ohio has until Wednesday to collect over 400,000 signatures in order to put a reproductive rights amendment on the November ballot. The proposed amendment would give individuals the right to make their own decisions regarding abortion, contraception, miscarriage care, and fertility treatments. While abortion would be prohibited after fetal viability, it would remain legal to protect the life of the pregnant patient. The amendment would also prevent the state from punishing patients or anyone who assists them. The co-founder of Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights, Dr. Lauren Beene, states that they have enough signatures to submit to the secretary of state.
