Sierra Leone’s ruling party declared winner of legislative polls in contested vote

The ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has won the legislative elections with 81 seats, while the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) won 54. The APC has refused to participate in governance, citing irregularities and tampered results. The opposition party has also demanded a re-run of the presidential polls after incumbent President Julius Maada Bio was declared the winner. The APC accused the electoral commission of conspiring with Bio’s party and called for the resignation of the commission chairman. Regional observers declared the elections free and fair, but other observers criticized the lack of transparency in the counting process.
