Monsoon Covers Entire Country Six Days Early: IMD

The southwest monsoon in India has covered the Entire Country six days ahead of schedule, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This is earlier than the normal date of July 8. However, 16 states and union territories experienced deficient rainfall in June, with Bihar and Kerala reporting large deficits. The IMD predicts that July's rainfall will be normal, although El Nino conditions are expected to develop, which could suppress monsoon rainfall. The summer season also saw heatwave conditions across many parts of the country.
