Botswana and De Beers have signed a new Diamond Sales Deal, giving Botswana a larger share of rough stones from their joint venture. The agreement covers a 10-year sales deal for Debswana rough diamond production and 25-year Debswana mining licenses. Botswana's President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, had pushed for a bigger share of Debswana's output. In March, Botswana also acquired a 24% stake in HB Antwerp to reduce De Beers' control over the country's gems. Botswana supplies 70% of De Beers' rough diamonds.
