A new 30,000-ton-per-year Recycling Facility has opened in Covington, Georgia, aimed at extracting valuable minerals from EV batteries and reintroducing them to the market. The facility, managed by Massachusetts-based startup Ascend Elements, plans to establish recycling facilities in strategic locations across the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Midwest. The Covington site has the capacity to disassemble around 70,000 electric vehicle batteries, preventing them from ending up in landfills. The company also plans to offer car manufacturers a modest payment for their old batteries to ensure responsible disposal practices. Ascend Elements is currently constructing another facility in Kentucky.
