Former US envoy to Israel Dan Shapiro named Abraham Accords adviser

Former US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro has been appointed as the State Department's point person for expanding the Abraham Accords between Israel and its Arab neighbors. The Biden administration aims to build on the accords, which were established under former President Donald Trump in 2020 and formalized ties between Israel and Arab states including Morocco, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. Shapiro's appointment as the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs' senior advisor for regional integration comes as Secretary of State Antony Blinken seeks to deepen and broaden the accords and build the Negev Forum.
