Hunger kills hundreds after US and UN pause food aid to Ethiopia’s Tigray region, officials say

Hunger has led to the deaths of at least 700 people in Ethiopia's Tigray region in recent weeks following the suspension of Food Aid by the US and UN after a scandal over donated wheat intended for the needy. The UN and US first suspended food aid to Tigray in March, before extending the pause to the rest of Ethiopia in early June. The deaths have been recorded by the Tigray Disaster Risk Management Commission, while researchers at Mekele University have documented 165 hunger deaths in seven camps for internally displaced people.
