UN Experts Assail ‘Inhuman Treatment’ of Guantanamo Detainees

U.N. rights experts have reported that the treatment of the last 30 Detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison is "cruel, inhuman and degrading." The treatment includes constant surveillance, isolation, inadequate medical and mental health care, and limited access to family. The U.N. special rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms while Countering Terrorism has called for accountability and closure of the prison, which remains outside the U.S. justice system.
