As US aircraft carrier docks in Da Nang, Vietnamese premier visits Beijing

Vietnam's prime minister, Pham Minh Chinh, met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing as the US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan docked in Da Nang, Vietnam. The move is seen as Vietnam's flexible "bamboo foreign policy" of balancing its relationships with both superpowers. Vietnam has been involved in military conflicts with both the US and China, but has opened up to dealing with Washington since 1995 while remaining close to Beijing.
