Hundreds of authors, including Salman Rushdie, Cheryl Strayed endorse anti-censorship initiative

Hundreds of authors, Including Salman Rushdie and Cheryl Strayed, have endorsed an initiative by the American Library Association and the Association of American Publishers calling attention to the 70th anniversary of a Freedom to Read Statement issued during the McCarthy era. The announcement urges the book community to affirm their commitment to the statement, which defends the freedom to write, publish and inquire, and includes the proposition that it is in the public interest for publishers and librarians to make available the widest diversity of views and expressions, including those that are unorthodox, unpopular, or considered dangerous.
