German lawmakers approve a plan to attract skilled workers to plug the country’s labor gap

Germany's parliament has approved a plan to attract more Skilled Workers to the country and address labour shortages in a growing number of professions. The plan includes a "points system" which takes into account professional experience and other factors, easing entry rules for IT specialists who lack university degrees but have other qualifications, and allowing highly skilled workers to bring more relatives to Germany. The country needs about 400,000 skilled immigrants each year as its ageing workforce shrinks, and 200 out of 1,200 professions surveyed had labour shortages last year.
