Huge storms and torrential rain have caused damage and disruption to houses and roads across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The floods have forced the closure of numerous roads and affected rail traffic. Landslides in Austria affected homes and hailstones of up to 8cm in diameter decimated crops in the state of Carinthia. Social networks circulated footage showing violent squalls and flooded streets. No casualties were reported. Switzerland is also recovering from thunderstorms which knocked down trees and damaged roofs and street furniture with wind speeds of up to 135km/h.
