Thuzar San, a former reporter for RFA Burmese Service, was arrested by police in Myanmar while trying to flee to Thailand in September 2021. She was beaten and interrogated for information about anti-junta protests and other journalists. Thuzar was sentenced to two years in prison and experienced human rights violations while in custody. She was released in January 2023 and fled to Thailand with her family. Thuzar remains committed to fighting for democracy in Myanmar and hopes to return home soon.
