Mass protests demand political change in Serbia

Mass protests have taken place in Serbia since early May, with tens of thousands of people demanding political change and the resignation of President Alexandar Vučić. The demonstrations were sparked by a school shooting in Belgrade that left 18 dead. Protesters have accused the government of corruption, manipulating the media and creating an atmosphere of violence. Vučić has suggested snap elections, but opposition parties have rejected the idea, calling instead for a technical transitional government to pave the way for free and fair democratic elections. The European Commission has criticised the government's attacks on independent journalism and drift towards Russia.
