The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that the company used "deceptive" design tactics to push customers to sign up for its Prime programme and made it difficult for them to cancel. The FTC claims that Amazon violated the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act by using "dark patterns", such as unclear buttons and misleading language, to trick customers into recurring subscriptions. Amazon denies the allegations and says it makes it "clear and simple" for customers to sign up and cancel their Prime membership.
