Sierra Leone president calls for ‘peaceful’ vote ahead of Saturday’s polls

Sierra Leone's president and People's Party nominee, Julius Maada Bio, has called for a peaceful election ahead of polls opening on 24 June. Bio, who championed education and women's rights during his first mandate, is one of 13 candidates vying for the top office. Since the main parties released their manifestos just a month before the election, both have been accused of disinformation and the online space could have a more significant influence on voters than ever this year. Traditional political street rallies have been banned this year to avoid potential violence.
