Lockdown ‘damaged a generation’, says former chief medical officer

Former Chief Medical Officer for England, Prof Dame Sally Davies, has told the Covid inquiry that lockdown “damaged a generation” of children and young people. She admitted that “no one thought about lockdown,” and said that while she was in favour of the first national shutdown, she was upset by the impact of Covid and lockdown policies on young people. She apologised to bereaved families for the failings, and said that pandemic plans had not examined the impact on civil liberties. The inquiry also heard evidence from former chancellor George Osborne and resilience minister Oliver Letwin.
