Mexico President Taps Labor Minister to Be Next Interior Minister

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has appointed Labor Minister Luisa Maria Alcalde as the new Interior Minister, replacing Adan Augusto Lopez who resigned to run for the ruling party's presidential nomination. Alcalde, at 35, will be one of the youngest to hold the position, which is traditionally one of the most powerful in the Mexican Cabinet. Lopez Obrador praised her record, including overseeing several minimum wage hikes and leading historic changes to Mexican labor law. Her appointment will maintain a strong presence of women in the Cabinet.
