A winter Storm in Southern Brazil has left 8 people dead and 19 others missing, including a 4-month-old baby. Fatalities were reported in seven cities and several roads are still blocked, while electricity remains out across the state. Firefighters have performed 2,400 rescues across the 35 cities affected by the storm. Two ministers from President Lula da Silva’s government have visited the state to offer support and arrange investments. The storm was an extratropical cyclone, which most often occurs in middle and high latitudes rather than in the tropics.
