Researchers at the University of British Columbia have developed a water Treatment Technology that can filter then destroy “forever chemicals,” also known as poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These substances are commonly used in firefighting sprays and foams, but can pollute the groundwater and taint drinking water. The technology captures up to 99% of PFAS particles and can be regenerated for reuse. The study results were published in the journal Chemosphere, and a real-world test is being prepared in various locations around British Columbia.
