Rufus Norris to step down as National Theatre director

Rufus Norris, the artistic director of the National Theatre, has announced that he will step down from the position when his second term ends in 2025. During his tenure, Norris helped bring star power to the National with performers such as Olivia Colman and Cate Blanchett. He also steered the theatre through the COVID-19 pandemic. The National will begin the recruitment process to find his replacement soon, with an appointment possible by the end of the year. The announcement was made as the National unveiled 12 new productions as part of its new year-long programme from September.
