Around 200 Ukrainian soldiers are expected to complete US-led training on Abrams tanks by the end of the summer, with the end of the training programme coinciding with the anticipated delivery of 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in the autumn. The Ukrainians are currently training in Germany with specially fitted tanks, while their 31 promised tanks undergo refurbishment. In total, the US has trained over 11,000 Ukrainians since February 2022, with around 6,000 currently training in 40 sites outside of Ukraine. US officials say they are watching the opening days of Ukraine's counteroffensive as some of the US-trained brigades enter the fight.
