The death toll in an investigation linked to a Kenyan doomsday cult has risen to 303, with fears it could be much higher, after 19 new bodies were found in a forest near the Indian Ocean town of Malindi, according to regional commissioner Rhoda Onyancha. Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, the founder of the Good News International Church, a taxi driver-turned-preacher, turned himself into police on 14 April and faces charges of terrorism. The church advocated fasting until death to "meet Jesus". Some of the victims were strangled, beaten or suffocated, while others starved to death.
