Firefighting Drone Can Douse Wildfires, Tackling Flames on Hillsides Where Fire Professionals Can’t Go

Researchers at the University of Coimbra’s Forest Fire Research Laboratory in Europe have developed a Firefighting Drone which can carry a fire hose. Called SAP (for “ported nozzle system” in Portuguese), the drone can hover 164 feet above a potential blaze and use a pair of symmetrical jet streams to channel water from a nearby fire engine onto mountainsides where the bulky automobile can’t go. Weighing 46lbs, the device is designed to be light and user-friendly, but is limited in range to the length of its hoses.
