Jharkhand Bandh: Normal Life Partially Affected in Rural Areas

A two-day state Bandh in Jharkhand, India, called for by a student organisation demanding 100% reservation for locals in government jobs and the withdrawal of a 60-40 recruitment policy, has partially affected normal life in Rural Areas. The bandh has also evoked a mixed response in urban areas. Protesters blocked roads, burned tyres and enforced a bandh in markets, while police detained 12 agitators. The Jharkhand State Students’ Union claimed the two-day agitation was a “major success” and has threatened to intensify the agitation if the government does not withdraw the 60-40 policy.
