The 1989 Tiananmen massacre – as seen by a new generation of watchful eyes

On the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, a group of young protesters gathered in London to pay tribute to victims of the Chinese army's military crackdown on peaceful pro-democracy protests. A new generation of young Chinese people are now taking to the streets to demand better treatment from their government, following three years of COVID-19 lockdowns, quarantine camps and compulsory daily testing. These protests have spread across China in the wake of a fatal fire in Urumqi, lighting up the pro-democracy movement in the diaspora.
