Time Has Come to Use Tech-driven Methods to Allow Overseas Indian Voters to Participate in Polls: CEC Kumar

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has said that technology-driven methods, such as e-postal ballots, should be used to allow eligible Overseas Indian Voters to participate in elections. Kumar also spoke about the importance of credible electoral outcomes and the challenges faced by election management bodies in the era of fake news and deepfakes on social media. The EC proposal to facilitate electronically transmitted postal ballot system (ETBPS) for overseas Indian voters is under discussion with the Ministry of External Affairs to iron out logistical challenges. The total number of overseas electors as of January 1, 2021, was over 1.15 lakh.
