Smoke from Canada eases as backup arrives to help fight ongoing wildfires

Smoke from wildfires in Canada has eased across much of the northeastern United States, but officials warn it could be a marathon fire season with more personnel arriving from other countries to help fight the blazes. 100 French firefighters have landed in Canada and hundreds more are expected from the US, Portugal and Spain. Around 1,200 people should be fighting fires in the province of Quebec by Monday. Although the situation is improving, Quebec’s forest fire prevention agency has said the province is now in the marathon phase of dealing with the fires.
