Senegal: Dakar closes its consulates abroad after attacks in several cities

Senegal has announced that it is temporarily closing its consulates general Abroad after recent attacks on a number of them, including in Paris, Bordeaux, Milan, and New York. The decision is a precautionary measure following unrest in the country after opposition politician Ousmane Sonko was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in a vice scandal. The violence that followed the conviction left at least 16 people dead and caused considerable damage. The closure will deprive hundreds of thousands of Senegalese abroad of consular services, including assistance and passport issuance.
