Dutchman Starts Overnight Sleeper-Train Operation Throughout Europe: A Hostel on Rails

The first privately-run overnight sleeper train service in Europe will launch tonight, with European Sleeper operating a Brussels to Berlin line that will stop in Amsterdam. The idea behind the service is to offer travellers an alternative to the extra planning and early mornings of hotel and airline travel, and the expense and booking requirements of high-speed rail. The company's founder, Elmer van Buuren, overcame significant challenges in securing funding for the service, raising €500,000 ($557,000) from 140 small investors, as well as €2m in seed capital.
