Montana bans people dressed in drag from reading to children in schools, libraries

Montana has become the first state to ban people dressed in Drag from reading books to children at public schools and libraries, with legislation that also seeks to limit LGBTQ+ rights. The bill, signed by Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte on Monday, defines a drag reading event as one hosted by a drag king or queen who reads children’s books to minor children. The legislation was co-sponsored by more than half of the Republican-controlled legislature, and took immediate effect. Bills in other states, including Florida and Tennessee, have also attempted to ban drag reading events, but face legal challenges.
