Tate Britain has replaced some of its most popular paintings to make space for contemporary works about politics, colonialism and environmental disaster. The rehang features around 200 works acquired since the turn of the millennium and includes updated labels providing historical context. To make way for the new works, many old ones have been sent to storage, including John William Waterhouse’s Lady of Shalott and Sir Anthony Caro’s seminal sculpture Early One Morning. The exhibition reflects “the growing diversity of Tate’s collection” and aims to showcase a wider range of perspectives and ideas.
